In my own mind.

I had a nice week.
My grandma made me the happiest girl in the universe when she gave me this...

A box filled with a million years old jewelry that once belonged to her. "You can keep the things you like and maybe sell in a garage sale what you don't like." Wahhaaa, you should've seen my face when I opened that thing.

Me and redhead sis, modelin' the shtuff.

Also, my best friend from elementary school, Dayla, came visiting from Canada. And let me give her some credit, she's the girl that DRAGGED me into my first thrift store. She hadn't been to one since she left to Canada...and now she's hooked again! Our styles are very different from each other, but we equally love shopping.

She found a fabulous FABULOUS oversized vintage clutch she kept shoving in my face. Heehee...
Later that week we went out for dinner in our 10 lempira tops.

And remember when I said I had to make a skirt for a sewing school test? Here it is. I finally wore it to work.

I made it high waisted and with barely noticeable ruffles on the bottom. I used velcro and a zipper as a closure so it would lay flat when worn with a belt. My family was laughing because they said my outfit looked "expensive" and the whole thing was pratically free.

And on a different note...
"You are in the wrong social circle"...Someone told me a few days ago. Perhaps becauseI mentioned that not a decent guy was interested in me. I thought maybe this person was right. But later that night when I got to ride a bike to a nearby "pulperia" with a dramatic 15 year-old and the sweetest social outcast, and after playing soccer with my brothers and church kids on our neighborhood street, and after I had the dearest conversation with my friend Mario who struggles to frown his half-paralyzed face when I make him carry around flashy dresses at a thrift store (he survived a gun shot)...
That's when I realized I couldn't be in a BETTER social group.

There's alot of things we can miss out on when we put our reputation over people or even over life itself.

xoxo,
Fabi

you are the cutest girl in the world. that's so cool you got all those necklaces! I love your skirt I wish I had the skills to make one :P. and sometimes its right to be wrong, I dont think that makes any sense but don't let anyone else tell you what you should do or who you should hang out with. I think its kinda cool to explore outside the box. lol.

I think its just harder for artsy girls to find boyfriends. Don't worry about it. The right one will come eventually. And never sell yourself short. Your too interesting for just any guy.

Hey Fabi,
Love your blog, it's so original and fashionable and classy! What you said about reputation and people is so true...friends come first, boys are secondary...(it's hard to find decent boys no matter who you're friends with!)

Hola Fabi...

i don't know where to begin -those jewelleries, your clothes or your take on life.

Anyway, as long as you're comfortable with the people you are surrounded with, other's opinions doesn't need to matter.

Hi Fabi, I'm from NYC. Have been checking out these fashion blogs cause I'm a political activist who has no idea how to dress for fun and like a girl even. So, I am looking for fashion inspiration. Your blog is great! The skirt is perfect. Damn, girl! You can sew!! And, yes, definitely our true friends are the only "social circle" we need. I have the same problem with guys in NYC....all friends but no decent ones to really date. It happens. Hang in there! You will find the right person eventually. Oh, and please pass along to Mario that he is a real hottie!!! :)

Fabi said...

hi!!! thankyou for the encouragement! I'll make sure to give Mario your message (and boy will he be happy =)) and thankyou for stopping buy!!

Hi!! No problem! This blog is great, really. So much of my work is way, way too serious, times being as bad as they are right now. So it is wonderful to see people just being normal and having fun with shoes and clothes and friends. It's important. I love that your grandmother gave you all that jewelry! Mi Abuelita gave me a similar treasure a few years back. But fashion n fun can help keep us human in really messed up times, I think. And yes, Mario is very cute! I'm glad that you will pass along the message. :)
