Find someone born in the 1970s. They'll understand.

The other day I wore a hippie headband (It's good for taming big hair) and guess who I got compared to?
The Indian in our lowest denomination bill.

Awesome.

Geral is hiding at my place because the lady who works at her cafeteria stole her jewelry, so her dad fired her. Turns out the psycho lady came back the next day with armed men threatening to kill them. I know, it does NOT make any sense.

But anyway, Geral's the girl I used to force to look at runway pictures and accompany me to thrift stores. Now, she understands. Yesterday we had a LITERALLY 5 minute photoshoot.
Here are 2 edited pictures.

She was already wearing her uniform skirt. (Uniforms, argh). And then the rest was just random accesories that were already on my drawer. The red lipstick was there, too. So nothing else was considered.

Me this week looking like a "maid". Hehehe...yes, we do have a KFC...

P.S. Next post, the first dress I have ever made. It's hideous but I am In love with it. Sewing school testing is next week because it's been postponed this whole time. I have to make a skirt with ruffles from scratch. Wooohooo!!

love this post!

thats so funny about being compared to the red indian guy! Not sure if it was meant as a compliment?

Like the photoshoot, its the coolest school uniform I've ever seen! Love that these look 1950s without the boring cliches of poodles and diner t-shirts.

I like your outfit in that pic by the way, esp the bag.

and gaaarr! Ruffles yes please..

Hola Fabi! Que suerte que estudias algo relacionado con la moda, me encantaría saber como hacer mi propia ropa pero me conformo con comprar en las tiendas de segunda mano y transformar las cosas...

I really like your blog and gosh I definitely know the situation with people don´t understanding your style.
well, in the end I´m all about individuality and uniqueness and in fact I like getting noticed on the street so I live and wear the sixties/seventies passionately.

sad that so many people don´t notice fashion and style as the beautiful thing that it is: an awesome way to express yourself! I´m sure warhol would have approved.

HEY FABI, I SEE THAT YOU'RE BLOGGING FROM THE "THIRD WORLD" BUT MOST THIRD WORLD PEOPLE CANNOT AFFORD MANY OF THE THINGS YOU SEEM TO BE SPEAKING ABOUT. HAVE YOU EVER LEFT HONDURAS? ALSO, I'M ASSUMING YOUR FAMILY IS WELL OFF, SO YOUR EXPERIENCE IS NOT THAT OF A "THIRD WORLD" PERSON. YOUR TONE IS A BIT CONDESCENDING...

glad you're sharing your point of view. Im not sure what kind of things you are referring to as things people here cant afford. I make about $160 a month where I work and most of my things are just great finds for little money. I still live with my parents who are pastors of a church with no salary but most of my uncles do have succesful businesses. Not my actual family, though. Im not trying to come off as a poor human being struggling for a plate of food, but more as a girl inclined to fashion in a place where fashion is nothing but mere vanity, not a way of expression like I see it. Im sorry if I came out "condescending" to you. I have lived and seen experiences that I know I would've never lived in some other places. This morning for example, I woke up to to the sound of threats of a man pointing a gun to the face of a thief. And 3 years ago I had to live off of the mangos in our backyard tree. These things arent the point of my blog, its not to address the political or social issues of my country, even though I know I would've had plenty of them to talk about. I wish you would've left an email address.

I so get you and understand how it is for you to live in your country!
I know what you say and you are totally right! It's the same in Romania too, well a little bit less violence! but still...the point is you can have style without being rich!
:*
and you do have it, girl!

fabi, i really enjoy your blog and i think it has such a fresh honest quality. i grew up in the bronx where fashion is also about matching, and many people would never dare dream of spending 2,000 usd on a jacket. you're a strong woman and it comes across in your writing. keep up the blogging, you never know what doors this can open for you. you have so much potential, and i get so excited when you update. Thanks!
